About SIOG

The International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) is looking for a new Chief Executive Officer. SIOG is a-not-for profit medical society with its office in Geneva, Switzerland.

The International Society of Geriatric Oncology, or Société Internationale d’Oncologie Gériatrique in French, hence the acronym SIOG, was founded in 2000 and was officially registered as a not-for-profit organisation under the Swiss law in October 2012. SIOG is a multidisciplinary society, including physicians in the fields of oncology, geriatrics and allied health professionals, and has over 10'000 community members in more than 75 countries around the world.

The goal of SIOG is to foster the development of health professionals in the field of geriatric oncology, in order to optimize treatment of older adults with cancer. SIOG promotes efforts in 3 strategic directions: education, research and clinical practice

Main functions and responsibilities

In close collaboration with the SIOG President, Executive Committee and Board, the CEO provides visionary leadership, supports the governing bodies of SIOG and manages the day to day operations of the office as follows:

  • The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SIOG provides visionary, strategic leadership with the Boards of Directors and has operational and financial responsibility for implementation of SIOG programs and management of staff.
  • The CEO is responsible for all aspects of SIOG business development and operations, which includes planning, identifying, negotiating, contracting and directing all activities of the society. Specifically, this covers fundraising, the organization of the annual conference as well as courses and other educational activities, and publications.
  • The CEO is responsible for developing strategies to financially support the association. The CEO leads and operates SIOG fundraising activities.
  • The CEO oversees financial, tax, compliance and risk management.
  • The CEO is responsible for identifying any specialties or resources needed in order to grow the society and, with SIOG Board, will develop the short and long-term plans for the organization. With SIOG Board, the CEO is responsible for developing and managing strategic alliances.
  • The CEO maintains an effective communication between SIOG and its members, its external partners and other relevant stakeholders, enhancing awareness of SIOG activities and establishing a consistent, strong and positive image.
  • The CEO creates an atmosphere that ensures an optimal balance of innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement in streamlined processes, systems, use of resources and technology.
  • The CEO demonstrates flexibility to adapt to the changing healthcare environment and to the permanent need for financial resources.
  • The CEO must be knowledgeable of the Oncology and healthcare environment and must know the key players in the sector.

Key strengths and requirements:

  • Proven track record in association management
  • Proven track record of success in strategic planning, profit and loss management, educational programme development and membership development
  • Demonstrated and sustained track record in fundraising and business development experience
  • Recognized experience in the management of activities relevant to the association: conference, educational programs, e-learning, marketing and communication, publications, etc.
  • International experience
  • Bachelor’s degree; preferred master’s degree
  • Strong experience and exposure to the oncology healthcare sector/network
  • Entrepreneurial, dynamic, and highly ethical leader
  • Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills

Job details:

  • This position is based in Geneva, Switzerland
  • This position will require some travel
  • This position requires a candidate who is bi-lingual English & French
  • Swiss working permit
