|
November 2-4, 2006
The meeting started with an original session on how to conduct clinical trials in elderly. Overall survival is a bad endpoint for this population, and should be replaced by disease free survival. Genetics and physiology of aging were explained, followed by a session on the use of targeted therapies in elderly cancer patients. There were also several sessions on specific tumour types presented by experts from various specialities, surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology and nursing. Several task forces from SIOG presented the first guidelines focusing on elderly cancer patients with topics ranging from geriatric assessment, chemotherapy toxicity, renal function, approach to anaemia and neutropenia, breast cancer and prostate cancer, to gastrointestinal cancer.
