The SIOG Advanced Course in Geriatric Oncology is designed for professionals who want to stay at the peak of their expertise. The course is a CME accredited training programme lead by international experts in the field of geriatrics and oncology designed to provide specific skills in assessment, care pathways and therapeutic choices for older patients with cancer. This 2-phase advanced course covers the general principles of cancer treament using case-based discussions in geriatrics for clinical oncologists as well as in clinical oncology for geriatricians.

Course Dates

Phase 1: A 4 day- course in Treviso, Italy from December 15 – 18, 2021

Phase 2: This phase consists in attending the SIOG 2022 Annual Conference, in Geneva, Switzerland on October 28-30, 2022.

University Certificate will be provided to participants at the end of phase II on the provision of attendance to Phase I and Phase II of the course.

  • Access insights and applications of geriatric principles to clinical oncology
  • Gain a solid understanding of collaboration models between medical oncologists and geriatricians
  • A common module addressed to clinical oncologists and geriatricians
  • Two separate modules each for clinical oncologists and geriatricians
  • Common case presentations and discussions
  • Case selections and their presentations by the course faculty
  • Subdivision of the participants in groups for internal anaylsis of cases for presentations of conclusions and general discussion

The faculty remains present and available for individual discussions and guidance as well as for general supervision for the development of multidisciplinary treatment teams in each participant’s institution within one year of completion of the course. It also performs an assessment of the level of activity of the teams within 5 years after the end of the course.

Once more, SIOG Advanced Course’s directors have prepared an exciting programme including case-based studies, discussions and debates under the general themes of ‘geriatrics for clinical oncologists’ as well as ‘clinical oncology for geriatricians’. The oncological sessions dedicated to geriatricians will be focused on the principles of cancer treatment in the elderly. The geriatric sessions dedicated to oncologist will be focused on the assessment of the elderly patient, with particular emphasis about polypharmacy, multimorbidity and frailty.

The SIOG 2021 Advanced Course In Geriatric Oncology, Treviso, Italy, 15/12/2021-18/12/2021 has been granted 24 European CME credits (ECMEC®s) by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®).

EACCME® credits
Each participant can only receive the number of credits he/she is entitled to according to his/her actual participation at the event once he/she has completed the feedback form. Cf. criteria 9 and 23 of UEMS 2016.20.
